Civil aviation, land/marine, power plant and military gas turbine engine operators are demanding improved cost efficient fleet and installation operation. Essential to this goal is the implementation of component repairs and design upgrades to reduce the high life cycle costs associated with the current approach of component replacement.

The following photographs show a turbine nozzle segment which went through advanced repair processes developed by AMES through innovative research;


    TECHNOLOGIES

The technical capability of Orenda's Advanced Materials and Energy Systems (AMES) business unit is focused towards the development and application of innovative methods for advanced manufacturing, repair and re-manufacturing of gas turbine engine components. Through extensive research and testing, AMES has developed an expertise in the development, qualification and implementation of gas turbine component repairs and design upgrades to aero, turbo shaft and industrial engines. Key to developing a repair process is to determine the life limiting failure mechanism(s) and identify the appropriate repair/upgrade process(es). Below is a list of such processes that have been developed by the AMES group for specific customer applications:

    • Blade Tip Restoration/Replacement
    • Electron Beam Welding for Patch Replacement of FOD Regions

    • Ion-Beam Implantation
    • High Temperature Coatings for Corrosion and Oxidation Protection
    • Hard Coatings for Erosion Resistance
    • Thermal Barrier Coatings for Increased Component Durability
    • Space Environment Protection Coatings
