Engine Operators continue to demand advanced repair technologies to substitute engine parts replacement requirements. This demand is a result of the cost savings achieved by the implementation of component repairs and upgrading reworks. In addition to these cost savings, repair & rework technologies must provide sound durability, meeting required performance standards.

Limitations imposed by the OEMs drive Air Forces, Airlines and Industrial Gas Turbine operators to independent stations like us for innovative solutions.

QUALIFICATION METHODOLOGY

The repair qualification methodology developed by Orenda adheres closely to the current civil as well as military airworthiness standards and practices followed in North America and Europe. The methodology includes:

  • FAILURE MODES, EFFECTS AND CRITICALITY ANALYSIS (FEMECA)
    1. Determine component functionality
    2. Assess and rank the criticality of component failure modes observed in service
    3. Identify the qualification/ substantiation tests
  • COST EFFECTIVENESS AND BENEFIT ANALYSIS (CEA/CBA)
    1. Establish the economic viability and benefit of repairs
    2. CEA parameters include: repair cost, repair variables, repair methods and techniques, quality inspection and limits, repair risk factors and comparison of the cost effectiveness of the repair to the original OEM cost
  • DETAILED COUPON AND RIG TEST
  • ACCELERATED ENGINE TEST (AET)
  • AIRWORTHINESS REQUIREMENTS FOR DESIGN CHANGE APPROVAL PROCESS
  • DEVELOPMENT AND APPLICATION OF COMPONENT IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

CERTIFICATION AND TESTING

Airworthiness certification standards associated with qualification methodologies developed at Orenda ensures structural integrity of component repairs/upgrades. Our experience indicates that superior structural safety and durability including minimum maintenance are successfully achieved when qualification methodologies are executed early during the repair development process.

Orenda in collaboration with Canadian government laboratories use extensive test facilities for comprehensive evaluation and testing of engines and their components.

PRODUCT

The design and approval of repairs of gas turbine aircraft engines and components is governed by Transport Canada. The authority to make findings of compliance with airworthiness standards and requirements is delegated by the Minister of Transport directly to Design Approval Organizations (DAO). Orenda Aerospace Corporation is a Design Approval Organization and has the authority and responsibility for the design and approvals of repairs under Transport Canada airworthiness regulations.

Orenda has full delegation of authority to act on behalf of Transport Canada under its active DAO certificate to carry out airworthiness conformity, finding of compliance and validation of repairs developed for gas turbine engine components.
